About Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston
The Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston is one of the largest Hispanic legal organizations in Texas, serving the professional development and networking needs of attorneys, judges, and law students throughout the Houston area. Founded in 1972, MABAH provides comprehensive continuing legal education programs, including monthly meetings featuring free one-hour CLEs and an annual all-day CLE program coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month. The organization offers specialized support through its Law School Liaison program, which connects experienced MABAH members with students at the three Houston-area law schools through mentorship and networking opportunities, complemented by substantial annual scholarships. MABAH's Judicial Screening and Endorsement Committee provides candidates with interview opportunities and community engagement forums, while the Civil Rights Committee actively addresses legal and social issues affecting the Hispanic community. Additionally, the organization coordinates Consejos Legales, a monthly free legal assistance program for Spanish-speaking residents in Houston conducted in partnership with the Houston Bar Association. With a diverse membership representing Puerto Rican, Argentinean, Mexican, Cuban, Guatemalan, Mexican-American, and non-Hispanic backgrounds, MABAH maintains rigorous professional standards while fostering leadership development through initiatives like Leadership for Tomorrow, which mentors middle and high school students in the Houston community.
