About Mexican Career Consulate in Detroit
Consular services to Mexicans residing in Michigan and Ohio date back to 1824, when the Consulate General of Mexico was opened in New York. As the importance of the Mexican presence in the area increased, in 1920, the Mexican Career Consulate was opened in Detroit, which in 1940 became part of the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago.
Until 2001, the Representation in Detroit was in charge of the State of Ohio. The jurisdiction of the Consulate has varied over time according to the opening and closing of representations.
Our Consular constituency includes 71 counties out of 83 of the State of Michigan and the northern part of the State of Ohio.
Michigan's 71 counties are: Alcona, Allegan, Alpena, Antrim, Arenac, Barry, Bay, Benzie, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Chippewa, Clare, Clinton, Crawford, Eaton, Emmet, Genesee, Gladwin , Grand Traverse, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Huron, Ingham, Ionia, Iosco, Isabella, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kalkaska, Kent, Lake, Lapeer, Leelanau, Lenawee, Livingston, Luce, Mackinac, Macomb, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Midland, Missaukee, Monroe, Montcalm, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oakland, Oceana, Ogemaw, Osceola, Oscoda, Otsego, Ottawa, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Saginaw, St. Clair, St. Joseph, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Van Buren, Washtenaw, Wayne and Wexford. The remaining 12 counties: Alger, Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon and Schoolcraft are served by the Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee.
The northern part of the State of Ohio, includes the counties of: Allen, Ashland, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Geauga, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Medina, Ottawa , Paulding, Portage, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Van Wert, Wayne, Williams, Wood, and Wyandot.
