About Permanent Mission of Colombia to the UN in New York
The Colombian Mission to the United Nations (UN) fulfills the primary role of representing the country before the organs and agencies of the United Nations System based in New York. Additionally, the Mission performs the following functions specific:
• Maintain the permanent link between Colombia and the UN.
• Represent Colombia and protect its interests in the negotiations taking place within the framework of the UN.
• Inform the Colombian government in Bogotá about the activities carried out in the UN of special relevance for the country.
• Ensure Colombia's participation in UN activities.
• Maintain fluid communications with the Missions of others Member States of the UN, for multilateral matters that they study within the framework of said Organization, in New York.
• Promote the realization of the purposes and principles of the UN cooperating with it and with other Member States.
The Mission is led by a Head of Mission, with the title of Permanent Representative (Ambassador), one Alternate Representatives and various diplomatic officials who deal with making monitoring of the different issues on the United Nations agenda Nations and its organs; and to report on developments that are presented in relation to these issues to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Exteriors.
