Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois

The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois (PRBA) is a professional organization serving the Chicago, IL legal community and beyond. Since its establishment in 1994, the PRBA has been instrumental in advancing diversity within the Illinois bar and fostering professional development among Latino lawyers, judges, and law students throughout the state. The organization provides comprehensive continuing legal education (CLE) seminars and substantive programs designed to enhance the legal skills and professional capabilities of its members. PRBA maintains an active lawyer directory and offers networking opportunities that connect legal professionals who share a commitment to diversity and excellence within the legal profession. The association plays a vital role in judicial selection processes, participating in the Alliance of bar associations' screening and rating of judicial candidates seeking initial appointment or retention. This involvement ensures that qualified Latino candidates receive proper consideration for judicial positions. Additionally, PRBA supports initiatives aimed at increasing Latino representation on the bench, recognizing that a diverse judiciary better serves and reflects the communities it governs. The organization also collaborates with Chicago Public Schools on educational programs, including the Lawyers in the Classroom Mock Trial initiative, demonstrating its commitment to legal education and community engagement. Through the PRBA Foundation Scholarship Program, the association provides financial support to Latino law students, investing in the next generation of legal professionals who will continue to strengthen the profession and serve their communities.
