Rutgers Alianza

Rutgers Alianza is the Latin American Law Student Alliance at Rutgers School of Law in Camden, NJ, dedicated to fostering professional development and academic excellence among law students. As a dynamic student organization, Alianza provides members with comprehensive access to resources, networking opportunities, and professional experiences that prepare students for successful legal careers. The organization connects law students with prominent legal professionals, industry mentors, and peer networks that extend throughout the greater Camden and New Jersey legal community.

The organization hosts significant annual events that bring together students, legal professionals, and community leaders. The 22nd Annual Defensores de la Justicia Banquet recognizes accomplished Latinx attorneys making meaningful contributions to their communities and serves as a premier networking opportunity for aspiring legal professionals. Through these gatherings, Alianza facilitates connections between law students and experienced practitioners who can provide guidance, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities.

Beyond networking, Rutgers Alianza demonstrates its commitment to community investment through the Carmen M. Garcia Bright Futures Scholarship Award, which recognizes and supports promising high school seniors in the Camden area. This scholarship initiative reflects the organization's dedication to expanding educational opportunities and fostering the next generation of diverse legal talent. Members benefit from access to professional development resources, mailing list communications featuring networking events and invitations, and collaborative partnerships with respected organizations including the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey and the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania.

Since its founding in 1982 by the Honorable Carmen M. Garcia, Rutgers Alianza has maintained its core mission of promoting academic excellence, developing strong professional networks, and securing legal knowledge for Latin American law students and the broader Latinx community. The organization continues to articulate and defend the educational, professional, and social needs of diverse law students at Rutgers Law–Camden.
